Halfaker and Associates' President and CEO, Dawn Halfaker, is Featured in SUCCESS Magazine

Dawn Halfaker, President and CEO of Halfaker and Associates, LLC, is featured in the December 2008 issue of SUCCESS Magazine. The article recounts Halfaker’s career in the Army and how she adapted and overcame her injury to start a successful small business.

Serving in the military had been a dream job.  Halfaker wanted to lead soldiers in combat.  She wanted to be put to the test.  "I loved it.  I was always off to the next adventure," she says.  "So much of my life and my identity were wrapped up in what I did."

Halfaker wanted to continue to support the US Military efforts at home and abroad.  She also wanted to assist veterans.  Unable to remain in the Army, Halfaker decided to make a bold move and start her own company.  In January 2006, only a year and a half after her injury, she formed Halfaker and Associates, LLC in Washington, DC.  With Halfaker and Associates, she is now able to provide support for homeland and national security and employ veterans.  The company has given her a new sense of purpose.

The lessons Halfaker has learned from her experiences apply not just to veterans, but to everyone.  "Everybody goes through some challenge in their life.  Or they will," she says.  Her advice is to accept the challenge.  "However hard it is, you definitely will come out a better person with more zest for life."  Halfaker feels stronger and more capable than she has ever been.  "Not only am I back to where I was, I’m better."
