Thousands of people in the District of Columbia have gotten off the streets, transformed their lives and learned to live independently thanks to the work of So Others Might Eat (SOME). Several Halfaker and Associates’ staff members and employees were honored to support SOME’s mission by serving food to the homeless and extremely poor citizens of Washington DC on April 4th, 2010.
SOME has served the District of Columbia for nearly 40 years and is the only interfaith, community-based organization that offers a comprehensive, holistic approach to caring for the city’s homeless and extremely poor citizens. The combination and centralization of services - whether it is a winter coat, a hot meal and a hot shower, a doctor’s care, job training, or affordable housing, encourage SOME clients to build on their successes, become increasingly self-reliant, and ultimately overcome the barriers that keep them homeless and destitute. To help meet the most basic needs of the District of Columbia’s homeless, SOME provides a nourishing hot breakfast and lunch every day of the year at their Dining Rooms for the Homeless located at 71 ‘O’ Street NW, Washington DC. As a result of SOME and the volunteer's efforts, thousands of people have transformed their lives, lifted themselves out of poverty, and are now living productive, meaningful lives in our communities.
Halfaker hopes to continue our volunteer work with SOME to help the hundreds of men, women and children who turn to SOME every day for support, nourishment, guidance and encouragement while striving to turn their lives around. To learn more about SOME visit: http://www.some.org/.
