Community Food Drive: Helping others in need
One Halfaker team member has recently taken the time to organize a community food drive as part of the Halfaker Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program to support two well-deserving non-profits – Food for All DC and Food for Others. These organizations support those who are in temporary situations of need and unemployed and low-income families in Northern Virginia and DC. Food for All DC helps provide for homebound residents and Food for Others supports the more than 90,000 people living in poverty in Northern Virginia, with 30 percent being children. This community service event is helping provide support to a large population in need. Join us in taking a closer look at the compelling work of our team member behind this event.

What is your inspiration for supporting and spearheading CSR events at Halfaker?
I am inspired to continue to serve by the drive I see daily in individuals all around me, such as members of our military, veterans, individuals facing illness and those who are underserved - who fight through their struggles to ensure a better life for themselves and their families.
Why did you decide to plan a Community Food Drive?
I decided to spearhead a community food drive because I believe it gets at the heart of the tough times our country is facing. It's through the willingness of individuals within the community to help each other, whatever way they can, that will allow us all to successfully get through these times. Specifically, food pantries, kitchens and non-profits that support our communities are struggling to ensure people who need food are getting it because the level of donations that they depend on has dropped. We are very fortunate to live in an area full of people who have the ability to give back. It can be difficult for individuals with jobs and other responsibilities to donate their time to these organizations. That's why the food drive is such a great event, because it provides people with an easy opportunity to give back in a high impact way.
What other CSR activities are you involved in?
I enjoy being involved in the Halfaker CSR Program and support a variety of organizations to include: organizing company blood drives with the American Red Cross, an event to landscape a playground that is used by children who are involved in the So Others Might Eat (SOME) rehabilitation program, and I help coordinate volunteers and logistics for the annual Run for Wounded Warriors sponsored by Halfaker.
How can others support the Community Food Drive?
If you’re interested in supporting the community food drive you can bring non-perishable goods, including canned and boxed goods to Halfaker Headquarters Office, 2900 South Quincy Street, Arlington, VA 22206 from September 17th – October 5th. If you are planning to come to our 6th Annual Run for Wounded Warriors on October 7th at Burke Lake, VA, please bring two or more goods to donate and receive Wounded Warrior Project swag as a thank you!
