Leading in the Field: Halfaker named GovCon Executive of the Year Finalist
Washington, DC—Helping to raise the bar for the government contracting industry, Halfaker and Associates’ CEO, Dawn Halfaker, was recently named an Executive of the Year Finalist for the 2011 Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards. Presented by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, Professional Services Council (PSC) and Washington Technology, it is one of the region’s premier honors in the government contracting industry.
Celebrating the program’s 9th anniversary, this year’s awards were presented at the annual gala dubbed by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce as the “Academy Awards of government contracting.” The event, held on November 1st at the Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner, drew nearly 1,000 industry and government leaders to honor the leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence of the people and businesses in the region’s government contracting community.
Following the premier event, Dawn noted, “It is an honor to be recognized as a finalist for this award and I would like to personally congratulate the award winner, Dolly Oberoi, CEO of C2 Technologies, Inc. She is an amazing leader in the region’s government contracting community and truly deserved the title of Executive of the Year in the less than $75 million category. Congratulations!”
After founding Halfaker and Associates in 2006, Dawn quickly discovered that the learning curve for gaining entrance and succeeding within the government-contracting arena was steep – it is a heavily regulated industry that involves many complex bidding and procurement rules. However, Dawn’s drive to succeed and continue her service helped her to quickly overcome these challenges by engaging the right mentors, researching the Federal Acquisition Regulations, and creating a network of business partners and advisors.
Dawn is committed to sharing the best practices and lessons learned she has gained over the past five years with other small businesses. She is an active advocate for woman-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses and devotes her time and energy to empowering entrepreneurs by providing one-on-one mentoring sessions and speaking at events to promote increased support for small businesses.
