Successful Small Business: Halfaker showcased on Washington Technology’s Fast 50

Washington, DC—Committed to a culture of service, Halfaker continues to defy a slowing economy as a strong and rapidly growing small business. Halfaker, a service-disabled veteran-owned, woman-owned, 8(a), small business, charts an impressive 153.32% compounded annual growth rate since inception in 2006. A recognized leader in providing professional services and information technology solutions, Halfaker’s impressive growth recently garnered the number 11 spot on Washington Technology’s 50 fastest growing small businesses in the government market rankings.

In a time of decreased funding within the federal government market place, Halfaker is facing the same challenges as every Company but ultimately achieved sustained growth based on a solid reputation, ability to perform and bringing the best team to every project. “We aim to truly partner with our clients bringing our expertise and innovative solutions to produce powerful results” said Halfaker, President and CEO. “We rely on in-house expertise but also look to bring in partners who add unique capability to enhance our solution - we take on a collaborative approach to each project.” Additionally, Halfaker prides itself on their vision to build a “culture of service,” a commitment going back to the founders fundamental reason for launching the firm. Halfaker CEO reiterated, “We ensure our clients understand our motto and that we are 100% committed to their mission which I believe is essential to build the trust and confidence necessary to truly partner and achieve the desired results.”

Halfaker also focuses on leveraging their responsiveness, flexible organizational structure and agile methodologies to help their clients achieve success. Halfaker acknowledges, “We have found that, while our clients may be facing budget cuts, their missions have not changed or diminished, so we look for unique ways to bring the same capability for less." Recently, Halfaker was approached by a client to build an innovative social networking solution for an event that included several stakeholders across the federal government who needed to communicate in a unique and secure environment. The social network framework was deemed critical to the success of the event but, based on the timeline, seemed impossible to develop. However, Halfaker created a solution that could achieve full functionality using Ruby on Rails, an open source rapid web application development platform. This powerful framework combined with Agile development methodology allowed the Company to design, develop and deploy a highly-customized web application to the client and almost 5,000 end users in three months. This customized web application provided the client with a mechanism for facilitating matchmaking, partnering and networking among the 5,000 end users to further enhance opportunities for small businesses to contract with the federal government.
