Supporting America’s Military Families: Halfaker attends Blue Star Families’ Suicide Prevention PSA Premiere

Washington, DC—A new public service campaign was recently launched to help military families realize that they are not alone, and that confidential help is available. To kick off the new campaign, Halfaker joined with senior military officials, leaders in government and business, and members of the entertainment community to support Blue Star Families on April 28, 2011 at the American Red Cross Great Hall of Service in Washington, DC for the launch of the new suicide prevention PSA campaign aimed at military families and veterans.

Blue Star Families and the Creative Coalition, in partnership with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and Health Net, Inc. joined forces to raise awareness and educate military families, veterans and service members about crisis and suicide prevention. Together, they created public service announcements to send the important message that the American people care about our Nation’s service men and women and their families and want those in trouble to get help. According to Kathy Roth-Douquet, military spouse and co-founder of Blue Star Families, “Our military service members and their families are resilient and strong, but we want them to know that they don't need to needlessly suffer through depression and anxiety. Asking for help when you need it is a sign of strength, not weakness.”

This PSA launch comes at a vital time as our Armed Services face record high numbers of suicides amongst service members and their families. A strong supporter of military families and veterans, Halfaker hopes the Blue Star PSA campaign helps save lives by effectively communicating the resources available to our military families in need.
